Trees In Adelaide

Right now I’m enjoying my last night in Adelaide, at the end of a very long sojourn. It’s been a glorious few weeks; full of wonderful wintery weather. After my first year in a new city (Singapore) I was feeling the need to get away, recharge the batteries and fill my head full of new dreams – Adelaide provided for that in so many ways.

I was able to enjoy three great concerts (Flight of the Concords, Tommy Emmanuel, John Scofield), three festivals (Little Big Shots Film Festival, Spanish Film Festival, Adelaide Guitar Festival) and three home games (sadly all loses) for Port Adelaide Football Club.

There were also weekly visits to Adelaide’s acclaimed Central Market, a delightful day in the McLaren Vale wine district and daily bike rides, long walks and quiet moments. I thoroughly enjoyed cooking alongside my mother and working with my father on building another guitar amplifier (a Vox AC4 clone).

It was also a very productive time, creating images, composing some music and doing a lot of writing. In fact, I made a solid start on a fiction project, completed some new columns for the South China Morning Post and did some background work for a couple of other things I can’t talk about yet.

I am keen to get home to Singapore, sleep in my own bed and get back to my studio. Singapore is home after all. But, these winters in Adelaide have become an important part of my process, my routine and the rhythm of my life. I am massively thankful for the opportunity to spend these days here.
