Diet Coke And Mentos – Part Two

A while back I posted a link to the very funny segment on YouTube, with two guys making a fountain display using Diet Coke and Mentos. Not suprisingly that video clip has gone viral, sprouting up all over the web and prompting lots of folks to try it themselves.

Well, the Viral Garden reports that after initially looking down on the practice of mixing Mentos and Cola, Coke have embraced it. Well sort of, they are actually trying to control it in a classic example of not getting either the net, or the trend.

See the catch is, it is OK to post clips of your Mentos and Coke exploits, but only if you post them to the Coke approved and controlled website. How lame is that? Well not only lame, but controlling and probably self-defeating. Anyway, take a look at the Viral Garden post and the links to other blog discussions, it is an interesting case study in failed marketing.
