The Song Remains Different (Week 10)

This week is fairly quiet, which means a lot of time to record, edit and write. There will be another visit to the Chanel Mobile art exhibit, a few more HK Arts Festival events and, of course, some movies to see.

So the Samsung drives are both good and quiet? I’ve been a bit leery of them compared to Seagate. The Barracuda drives are pretty quiet, and although I can hear the drive accessing, most of the time it’s silent. Main noise source is, as ever, the graphics card fan.

The Mac Pro came with a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 and compared with the Samsungs it was noisy as a construction site during seeks. Obviously I can’t speak to reliability yet, but the Samsung drives are really quiet (almost eerily so) and Logic Pro, for example, is quicker on starting and slightly, but noticeably more responsive when changing sampler settings, for example.
