The Minority Report Thing

Thanks for Johnny Laird for linking to DJ Chung’s look at the screen interface designed by Jeff Han. Very cool stuff, but still not as impressive as the Innotive product, which I highlighted a few months back. In case you missed that, here is the video again. Just when we all though there was no need for more powerful computing…..

[shrug] I may to slap together a Linux box to avoid longhorn. In that situation I’ll be worrying more about trying to get decent screen fonts than whether I can use my hand instead of a mouse to move objects on my screen – although I expect the Linux guys will have that sorted before M$ and apple.

For the most part, I would love to opt out of the quest for more power. My “unfashionable” g4 powerbook runs my DAW apps rather well and really do think the current generation of machines, with the right spec are as powerful as could be needed for audio, at least until we get to 512 sample rates or something nuts like that.

But whilst the power is great, the interface issue does remain. I’m not sure I want a physical set of sliders, but I do miss that hand interactivity.

By contrast, L constantly complains about being trapped in the powerpoint world where there is still seems to be a massive lust for more power and speed. She is really keen on the innotive thing, because the whole “office” thing seems such a narrow tube for information.
