Re-Design And Re-Intention

Over the past few days, this blog has undergone a major redesign. I had been unhappy, for quite some time, with the look, feel and performance of the site. I did explore the Habari platform, as an alternative to using WordPress. Habari has a lot going for it, but the development is not quite there for me to jump on it right now. However, that’s a decision I’ll revisit in 2011.

Instead of switching platforms, I decided to adopt the modularity theme from Graphic Paper Press, since I wanted to feature a lot more photography on this blog.

There’s a small list of changes I want to incrementally make over the coming months. In particular, I want to do a better job of incorporating music clips on the blog. But, I’m committed to sticking with this theme for the remainder of 2010.

It wasn’t my intention to make the redesign coincide with Chinese New Year, but it is kind of neat that it worked out that way. This is my fourth CNY in Hong Kong and it’s not surprising that this year I feel more connected to the rhythm (if not the ritual) of this season.

So here’s to wishing you and your family all the best in the Year of the Tiger and hoping you enjoy this new blog design over the coming months.

I like it a lot too, as I think I already posted.

Just one hiccup though: in comments, the head and shoulders image place holder is shifted right across the comment’s name and the first line of their comment. It does this in Firefox, Opera (both M$ and Apple versions) and Safari (do you realise – your blog made me use Safari!). I’ve no idea about IE.

But regardless, it’s a good look.

Nice face wash for the blog and such coincidence during the start of the Chinese New Year. Hope 2010 is a good year for all of us, I will keep reading 😉

Cheers.

Thanks!

I love the way you say “head and shoulders image holder.” Gravatars are one of those cool ideas that never really took off. Easy solution was to simply disable them. The comment space is still not perfect – but at least it doesn’t look as borked now.

Good to have you reading. And, yes, it was a happy coincidence.

Seems to have helped gently increase readership – though I still have much less than half the number of readers than this time last year.
