Thanks to Greg for the link to Write Room, a very cool little Apple app for writers. I have been trying it for two days and I like the feel, the format and the absence of distraction.

Part of why I abandoned Microsoft Word was because of all the distractions; Pages is better, but only up to a point. The craft of writing often finds it’s best expression in the absence of technology (something I have read both Will Self and Wendell Berry comment upon). Having a whizz-bang computer has never made me a better writer and there are times when I’ve wondered if it has made a worse one. WriteRoom is a nice antidote to the formatting fever that wordprocessors can feed.
