Arrived back on Friday night after a pleasant enough flight to Mumbai on Qantas and conencting flight to Delhi on Jet. The Mumbai airport experience was good and far better than clearing customs in Delhi.

It was remarkable to fly over the devastaed East coast of Sri Lanka en route. The coast looked like a giant floodplan for mile after mile. Just thick, brown and ill defined. A conversation with one of the stewardesses confirmed that coast normally looked quite verdant all the way to the edge of the villages and coast. However, what I saw was nothing like that and bore more resemblance to some vast brownfield construction area.

Welcome back.

I cannot really comment on the destruction you observed.

Thanks for the welcome.

As for the devastation, well it is still haunting to recall, and that was from the luxury of 39,000 feet! However, on the plus side I have had informal chat with senior people here in Oxfam and Habitat for Humanity and it does look like there will be some amazing rebuilding and aid distribution happening in all the effected countries.
