Going through my old music files over the past couple of months, it has struck me that I’ve been trying to write a book on guitar playing for a very long time. I’ve stumbled over an array of different plans, outlines, old blogposts and drafts. Reading this stuff has been like an archeological excavation through the different genres and contexts of my musical experience.
So today I offer a draft of what I hope will become my book on guitar playing. I’ve gone with the working title of Chord Cafe (I used that title on the previous version of this blog) and chapter one (pdf file) is available now. There is more than enough material stockpiled and I hope to put this together as a self-published book, together with a CD for the examples.
In a way, I’ve started at the middle and I’ve focussed on chord playing. In part I’m trying to share from my strength as a musican, but also, I hope this will represent an interesting and different trajectory for these “lessons.” Please feel free to leave comments if you find these helpful (or help me realise my mistakes). Happy strumming.
