A Little Studio Tour

For this week’s YouTube video, I decided to post a little tour of my studio. I had planned another video, a review of the Lume Cube portable camera lights, but with the workshop taken up with a repair project (my daughter’s bedhead), I had to change plan.

Over the years I’ve shared very little detail about the places where I’ve lived and worked. I did post about building my studio in Singapore, but that largely related to the equipment that I used and the furniture I built to house it. So, you got a nice picture of one corner of one room, but no sense the room was actually just part of a whole floor of our home, along with a gorgeous balcony, with wide wicker cane chairs and ferns, a big sunlit lounge, a full kitchen, and huge walls to display photos and art. The whole thing was a dream, a vision if you will, of a space to work with musicians, to create songs, take photos, and try to piece together all the bits required for artistic success in a digital age.

I’ve been reluctant to share more, partly because I work from home, so at some point talking about the place where I work intersects with my family’s need for privacy. My intentions were good, but maybe I played it all too safe, and held back too much.

Part of what I’m enjoying about making these little videos for YouTube is being able to film in the studio, to open up and show you more of the spaces I inhabit. The dream here in Tokyo is a little different. The space is less about collaboration and more about making and building my own personal projects. But, the soul of it all is still the same, a desire to dream, create, share, inspire, and grow together.

Anyway, this video is a quick walk through the studio. Eventually I’ll do another one about the workshop, which is actually where a lot of the photography gear lives (including lights and printers). I hope you like the video and please check out my YouTube channel. I’ve just reached 10,000 views, which is a small milestone I know, but it’s a nice social proof that these videos are worth making.
