Thanks to two and two makes five for highlighting some images from digital globe of the current home-clearing programme in Zimbabwe.

I’ve been to Zimbabwe twice, in 1993 and again in 1995. Both trips left with a very positive impression of the country. However, I doubt any of the optimism and hope I saw then still remains. It is an enduring tragedy that the world community has not done more to change the situation there.

It seems hard to know what the world could do to change things there, short of invasion. Or maybe there are financial screws that could be turned? I don’t know, but I’m sure embargoes would only hurt the common people, rather than the government.
