Police knew Brazilian was ‘not bomb risk’
The more I follow the news of the murder of Jean Charles de Menezes by the British police, the worse it looks. I favour a great many of the moves to provide greater security in the wake of the extremist bombing, but this case seems a clear example of the need to be cautious about the powers (and attitudes) given to the police. Part of what works so well in the UK, compared to many other countries is the quality of the relationship between the police and the society at large and it would be tragic to see this eroded.
