It hasn’t been a good week so far. I woke at 3.30am on Monday morning with a screamingly sore ear and swelling on the side of my face (even more) like some kind of freak from a science fiction horror movie. On Monday afternoon the doctor confirmed that it was an ear infection. Last night was rough and sleepless thanks to the pain and fever. Today I felt a little better but decided to go back to the doctor as the swelling had not gone down and my ear was starting to look like a pickled cabbage. My doctor referred me to an Ear Nose and Throat specialist and thankfully I was able to get an appointment before the T8 warning shut down the city. His exclamations of “WOW” as he looked down my ear canal, alerted me to the seriousness of the infection as did his warning this was “no trifling matter.” I advised his that as a musician, the idea of my ear falling off was certainly no joke. My ear is now packed and I have a small dispensary of drugs to get me through the night before I go back tomorrow for a checkup.
Also, Hong Kong is shut down again under a Typhoon. This one is not passing right over us, though the wind direction means our apartment has been facing the full force of the storm for the past few hours. L’s ferry trip was quite wild as there were serious white caps over our side of the harbour. C already had a half day on Monday and there’s a chance she might have to stay home tomorrow if the storm does not pass soon.
