I realise it has been a while since I posted any updates on my Berklee online studies. A few weeks back I finished their intermediate MIDI course, which was mainly focussed on sampling in Reason, as well as the Mac recording course, which was a tour de force through Logic. Right now I’m halfway through two more courses. Getting Inside Harmony 2 is the follow on to a course I did late last year with Berklee and deals with jazz harmony, especially minor harmony and chord substitution. In fact Getting Inside Harmony 1 recently won an award for the best online distance course in US higher education. Arranging 2 is also a follow on course, this time looking at arranging for horn sections. I’m having a lot of fun writing a 4 part horn arrangement for Tom Waits’ Temptation and the final assingment for this course will be a horn-driven jazz original.
