Peter Chattaway has posted an excellent interview with Philip Pullman. It’s a very deep and revealing discussion that unpacks a number of issues – like Pullman’s dislike of C.S. Lewis’ fiction (whilst admiring his other work) and Pullman’s views on ideological totalitarianism.
As far as critics of Christianity go, I find Pullman far, far more compelling than someone like Richard Dawkins for two clear reasons. First, Pullman is well informed about the subjects he addressed (both in terms of theology and literary theory). Second, he is far more humble in the claims he makes for his own positions.
