This afternoon I took a quick trip down to the Adelaide Kite Festival. The weather was very different to yesterday’s visit with the sun beating down.
Being a nicer day, the event had a bit more of a carnival atmosphere today. Again I was struck by how diverse (and congenial) the crowds were. I spoke to some young Russian tourists who were very impressed with how calm and pleasant the scene was. And, I chatted with a local elderly lady, who was fascinated (in a good way) with the origins of the various people enjoying the afternoon.
It was also nice to see some of the regular local attractions being enjoyed by the crowd. The beachside Semaphore Park has a vintage Carousel that dates back to the 1920s and wonderful miniature train, operated by the nearby rail museum.
Walking away from the beach, the main road through Semaphore is fairly cool, with some excellent laid back cafes, where I was able to refuel and recover from the sun before heading home.
