I love the phrase “woodshedding.” It’s suggestive of seclusion, hard-work and not a little bit of punishment. Musicians use it describe periods of intense and physically demanding practice. After my film course, which invovled composing direct into the computer, I’ve decided to bracket some time out to really get my fingers back on the strings and feel some live music again.
