Further to yesterday’s review, there are some other neat features in the new iteration of Garageband. You can now use markers to organise your songs into regions (i.e., verse, chorus and so on). Click on the region under the tempo/time grid and every loop in that region is highlighted. Then drag with the mouse to move the whole region and it’s loops to another place, swapping locations or, alt and mouse to copy the region to a new location. In both instances the rest of the song automatically nudges along to create space for the region. Garageband retains the region name if you move it and appends a “copy” if you duplicate. This can lead to funny names like “Verse 1 copy copy,” but thankfully all you have to do is press the control button when the region is highlighted to rename the marker.
The Magic Garageband feature produces songs that are around a minute and half long, but using these region editing features to expand those into fuller format three to four minute songs highlights just how quick and easy it is to do basic arranging in this programme.
