For the past few days I’ve been taking a break in Adelaide. In many ways it has been the holiday I didn’t quite manage to have in the middle of the year.
The days have been slow and measured, with that sense of constructed slothfulness that mark all good breaks from routine. I’m more relaxed than I’ve felt at any stage of this year – rested, well exercised and feeling keen to face the challenges of the next few months.
I’ve done quite a bit of non-fiction writing this week as well as a bit of open-ended dreaming about 2012. I’m going to cut back on a lot of projects and go into the new year with a smaller set of goals and plans – perhaps a lighter set of plans is a better way of putting it.
Tomorrow I’ll write a little more about the coming month. The amazing thing is that on each of the next four Mondays, I’ll be waking up in a different town, in a different country. More on that tomorrow.
