Started work today on the final assignment for my Berklee Arranging 2 Course. I need to arrange a song for performance by five horns (trumpet, alto sax, tenor sax, trombone and baritone sax) and a rythmn section. to make things interesting, I’ve opted for the tune Dos Gardenias, which some of you may have heard on the Buena Vista Social Club album. I’m going to town on the percussion adding ideas from the Style Writing course as well as sequencing up a storm with some tips I picked from MIDI Sequencing Intermediate and Desktop Music Production for Mac.

It is nice to be nearing the end of the course and to pull together all these resources. After the end of next week I will only have one course left, Arranging 3. It has been frustrating to not have a reliable internet connection during this programme, but despite that, I’ve learnt a great deal. Not that long ago I was a total novice in the field of computer based arranging and recording, but now I’ve got some real confidence and chops. I’m looking forward to finally finishing off my solo album in the fall and then tackling some new projects.
