A BPO Fourth Of July

The Malls looked very busy yesterday and today’s paper explains why. Yesterday was a holiday for the majority of Delhi/Gurgaon’s 3 lakh (300,000) BPO workers (business-process-outsourcing). The Malls looked very busy yesterday and today’s paper explains why. Yesterday was a holiday for the majority of Delhi/Gurgaon’s 3 lakh (300,000) BPO workers (business-process-outsourcing). In an odd twist these workers get to celebrate the major US holidays like the 4th of July (in place of most local holidays). However, this was only for BPO-workers, call-centre workers dealing with retail and telecommunications clients don’t get these foreign holidays. A funny twist in the story of globalisation.

Hey Mike,

I am writing and editing some pics on my fav of the malls and should have that up tommorrow (will have info on roads and mall options). As far as rental goes, most expats tend to go for the Laburnum complex, though a new place called Vista Villas is also popular (but I never got to visit it). For cheaper rentals, it might be worth asking a question on the expat section of IndiaMike.com, which has decent information. Gurgaon is a really unregulated market so property quality can vary a lot!

One place that is worth checking out is the DLF Golf and Country club, if you want a sporting facility.

If you are moving there from outside of India as an expat, it really pays to contact the community liason officer from your country’s own embassy. They will have a range of contact details and may be able to help with introductions to people, clubs and services.

Anyway, I’ll have this mall blogpost up soon.
