Last night, L and I had the chance to dress up a little (OK, not that much really), and attend a Charity Ball organised by International Care Ministries. It was a pleasant night; passable Hotel banquet food, entertaining company and the chance to find out a bit about an transformative charity working in the region. We chipped in a little money to support some small scale educational work. I’m not sure how much was finally raised last night, but my back of the envelope calculations hinted at a pretty substantial figure.
For us, it was a nice change to enjoy a formal dinner that was not a) a work function, b) a wedding, or c) something involving Haggis and folk dancing. Yes, our social outings in recent years have been that narrow.
It was also good to see some real generosity and desire to do good at work. Lately I have been seeing, amongst some well-known bloggers, rather harsh comments about Christians and wealth and last night was a good counterweight to that cynicism.
