Sadly, my trusty faux-leather bound NASB Bible is falling to pieces. That edition has a lot of sentimental value, since it was the copy I carried with me when first considering moving into full-time ministry all those years ago. But, the time has come to move to a new copy that is a little less, well, fragile.
I’m really impressed with the new edition of the Bible in the Penguin Classics series – except for the fact that it is a King James Version. The layout of the Bible in single column paragraph format is really appealling and easy to read. If only that format was available in an RSV, NASB or ESV I would have been all over it.
So, what am I looking for? Well I’m tired of the two column layout, keen to avoid extraneous headings and cross-references and I’m prone to running out screaming at the sight of anything in the “study bible” genre.
To be honest, a “normal” book format works fine for me (though for years I’ve wondered about a multi-volume “magazine” format). If anyone knows of an edition that fits the bill, please let me know. Till then, I’m shopping.
