SoundCloud Sets – A New Way To Share

I’d like to share one of the new features on SoundCloud, something I believe will appeal to music bloggers and anyone interested in sharing good music – sets.

Actually, you’ve been able to create sets of your own music on SoundCloud for some time. But, you can now create sets containing other people’s music and share them right on your own stream, to everyone who follows you. Moreover, SoundCloud will blend the songs into the set into one waveform, to make it easy for people to listen to your set and for you (and others) to embed that set on other sites or blogs.

Yes, it’s a quick and simple way to create digital mixtapes!

Here’s A Set I Created Earlier

On the weekend I pulled together a set of the best music I’d listened to, over the past week, on SoundCloud. This clearly shows the power of this tool for music reviewers, bloggers, or anyone who wants to hare newly discovered music online.

I really like this format, it easy to just listen to the whole set, or jump to the individual page for any song. For now, I’ll keep doing it every now and then – maybe once a month – and take it from there.

When Do I Listen To SoundCloud?

I’ll just take this opportunity to answer a question I’ve been asked a few times; when and where do I listen to new music on SoundCloud?

When I lived in Hong Kong, I used SoundCloud while on the go, listen with headphones on my iPhone. Here in Singapore, I actually make time twice a week to listen through my studio monitors, while doing chores or reading. I like to just go into the stream and let it play, like radio. Occasionally, I’ll go in and try to find some new people to follow, either through comments, or by surfing groups. It’s not really a scientific thing.

I needed some music for my afternoon’s work at the office today and this is perfect!
