My five year old daughter’s words, “I don’t like McDonalds papa, I only like the toys.” This afternoon I’m feeling like I should have paid greater attention to her words.
It was about three months since the last time we tasted the fare provided at the “golden arches,” and nearly a year since I had a Big Mac, which for some odd and irrational reason I have been craving. But despite having a McDonalds literally downstairs from our current apartment, my daughter has refused to eat there.
Well today we went and as soon as we sat down I started to regret the decision. The limp, small and uninspiring fries, the dull and flat soft drink and the burger, urgh the burger. Tired, slimey and best described as a mixture of goo and gristle. It was horrible. My daughter bravely fought through her portion, but given the amount of fruit and yogurt she consumed when we returned to the apartment, it was clear she had no intention of eating her fill of the clown’s food. I was unable to do so either.
Good fries are a thing of delight and a well made burger is one of the most satisfying meals possible. I don’t really want to pick on McDonalds per se, they are trying in their own way to respond to the needs and tastes of their customers. But I know that even at five, my daughter has figured out that it is a less than fulfilling meal experience. Next time we will go with her favoured choice, Sushi.
