OK, here is a short series of places that defined Delhi for me. This is a completely personal and random list so don’t plan your travel itinerary based on this or tell how I “got it wrong.” I’m only speaking from a subjective position here folks.
First on the list is our now “old” home church, Delhi International Christian Fellowship (what an aweful name), or DICF as everyone calls it (which is no better, is it?). You can see some pics from our last day at my Flickr page (yes, I finally caved in!).
Can you judge a church by it’s coffee? Maybe, maybe not. Certainly my fondest memories of that church will be coffee afterwards, especially whilst watching C and the other kids from all over the world playing in the playground after the Service.
We certainly had a mixed experience of the place. On the one hand we made some good friends for life and in recent months have been rewarded by the preaching. Yet on the other hand we often found it painfully cold. For most of my time in Delhi I found going there quite tangental both to my faith and to my sense of mission.
However, the church is growing and most importantly is taking its mission to the Delhi expat community more seriously. It is hard for an expat church to move from cosy cultural alcove to being a missional sense of faithful growth but DICF is trying. I would humbly ask you to remember this church in your thoughts and prayers.
