I have something of a love/hate relationship with Vanity Fair. On the one hand it has some serious reporting (perhaps best described as essaying), on politics, literary history and media. Also, the magazine features some stunning photography, especially the work of Annie Leibovitz. On the other hand, Vanity Fair succumbs at times to the more dross end of pop culture (e.g., Paris Hilton making the cover and so on).
In the end the good and interesting content outweighs the bad an vulgar by a good enough ratio for Vanity Fair to make it into our home every other month or so. This feature on Dubai, for those that are interested or at least curious about the postmodern city, is worth the price of admission.
