Greetings from sunny Singapore. After an emotional goodbye to Hong Kong, we arrived on Sunday evening and moved straight into our new home. The last few days have been nothing but unpacking, cleaning and enjoying the local cuisine.

Unfortunately, our packing company in Hong Kong (Asian Tigers) did a thoroughly deplorable job of boxing our things. I’ll say no more just yet, but it was the perfect storm of every nightmare you’ve had about careless removalists, combined with every cliche of thoughtless Hong Kong service.

The saddest thing is not so much the damage to our belongings, but the way it has tainted becoming reacquainted with our belongings from India. It’s been an amazing experience opening boxes and seeing stuff we last used in Delhi, back in 2006!

There are some amazing treasures that will quickly add character to our new home. Unfortunately, I don’t think it will be possible to unpack everything, before flying out to Adelaide for a couple of weeks rest.

This has been a crazy last 12 months. A lot of travel, a lot of work, a lot of change and, of course, moving to a new country. I’m really worn out, mentally and emotionally.

My plan is to unplug completely during my time in Adelaide. I’ll be taking photos and doing some writing, but I won’t be checking email, blogging, twittering or using SMS. In fact, I’ll trying to avoid anything that beeps, blinks or tries to electronically attract my attention.

Before then I hope to squeeze a couple of more blogposts in and write some reflections on the first week in Singapore. This really is a very, very different city to Hong Kong!

Enjoy Singapore! Envious that you’re eating lots and lots of fantastic local food.

Wish everything runs smooth in these first days in your new city. Enjoy the atmosphere, food and places that has to offer. And for sure, the coming rest after so much stress in the past months.

Happy summer!

Thanks Juliana!

Gregory – I hope not. Certainly compared to Hong Kong, Singapore feels less mall-bound.

Javier – thanks. Enjoying a little break in Adelaide now, which is a long way from the summer sun!
