One of my worst bad habits is taking for granted the place where I live. Sydney, London, Delhi, Hong Kong – all of these are amazingly photogenic cities, places that tourists are willing to travel a long way (and at great expense) to see and photograph. But, all too often I’ve been blase about creating my own images to capture the unique vibe of these places.
With only a few weeks left in Hong Kong, I’m forcing myself to get out and take some shots. There are some places that I haven’t really photographed. However, there are many more that I have tried to shoot and not gone back to capture in a more creative, or original way.
So, this afternoon I spent a few minutes walking around the rooftop terrace of the ifc Mall, trying out some ideas. I took my 10.5mm fisheye and 24mm tilt shift lens, a couple of filters and a bottle of water, because it is pretty warm today. Then I came home and developed them with a new overlay technique I’ve been playing with in Photoshop. Hopefully, this will be the start of a final set of images, capturing a little of the beauty of Hong Kong, the city I’ve called home for the last five years.
