Are You Ready For Your Treatment?
If you haven’t caught it already, Dollhouse is an excellent new(ish) TV show from Joss Whedon (Buffy/Angel, Firefly/Serenity, Dr Horrible’s sing-along-blog). If you haven’t caught it already, Dollhouse is an excellent new(ish) TV show from Joss Whedon (Buffy/Angel, Firefly/Serenity, Dr Horrible’s sing-along-blog). I like the show for a lot of reasons, not least the great cast (including Eliza Dushku and Harry Lennix). But, there’s one line that always catches my attention,
“Are you ready for your treatment?”
The premise of the story is that the Dollhouse can supply operatives (people) who are programmed to be a personality for a given mission, or encounter. Once they complete that mission they willing submit themselves to a “treatment” that, in effect, resets their brain (not unlike rebooting their computer) and they forget everything.
Wouldn’t that be cool?
OK, that’s probably a bit much, but some weeks, who wouldn’t be tempted to put their hand up for that treatment. Right now, I would.
It’s been a hard week and half, with good news, bad news and a lot of taxing hard to process news. Good people have been making reasonable requests of my time, but I’m not doing that great a job of thinking how it all fits together. At the same time I’m feeling a lot of, well, angst about where I’m living that is not really useful right now.
One great thing about the GTD approach is that it lets you park a lot of stuff and trust that you can come back to it. But, right now, stuff is coming in really fast and my parking skills are not working well. For example, I was just about to drop the “writer” tag from my business card and blog, when three, no make that four, writing-related jobs came up. What does that mean, I’m not sure.
Which is a roundabout way of saying I’m heading to the mountaintop (or woodshed) for a while. I want to do something a little more deep than a weekly review, to get my head around this stuff. But, I want to do that in a way that doesn’t pull time from my Berklee study, or my writing and recording programme, or my current photographic work. That can only happen if I blog less, for a while.
October will see the 5 year anniversary of this blog and I have a few posts drafted up for that. But, you should expect to less content for a few weeks. Don’t worry, all is well and I’ll post more regularly once things have calmed down a little,
