What Does This Week Look Like?

The Autumn is in full flight. Most of my time this week is blocked out for the basics, practice, recording, photographing, writing, arranging. All nuts and bolts stuff.
I have two bits of software testing going on right now. First of all, I’m diving into Adobe Lightroom, which for many photographers seems to be the preferred choice over Apple’s Aperture. Personally, I want to like Aperture, not least because I’ve already invested in it. BUt, I’ve had a hard time getting into that programme and I really need to rethink my approach to it if I’m ever going to work with it. By contrast, Lightroom seems to offer all sorts of workflow advantages out of the box and a much bigger and more active community of support around it. Of course, if Apple release something special with Aperture 3, that could change everything.
I’m also trying out Logic 9 in Snow Leopard 64 bit mode. Snow Leopard does not boot automatically into 64 bit, but I’ve been running it for a few days in that mode and there are some noticeable improvements. So far, most things in Logic 9 work well, but some plugs are erratic and my UAD2 card becomes unavailable. More on that to come.
This week I’m rethinking the way I tag categories on this blog. I really like what Jonny Baker has done in creating five broad areas for content on his blog. It’s an aspect of this blog that I’ve never been satisfied with.
This week will also see me working on my music collection, both physically, in taking discs out of jewel cases to save space and also managing the cataloging process and importing more music into my iTunes library. I’m often being asked for playlists and while I still follow an “I don’t DJ,” I also should be treating my music library more seriously as a professional (and social) resource.
Finally, I’m cooking – a lot. Actually, I don’t blog about food much and that has been bugging me. There’s simple changes I could make to my routine that would make it easier to blog about cooking and include some photos of food and food prep. Something to think about there.
