The Unproductive Week

It hasn’t been a good week so far. I woke at 3.30am on Monday morning with a screamingly sore ear and swelling on the side of my face (even more) like some kind of freak from a science fiction horror movie. On Monday afternoon the doctor confirmed that it was an ear infection. Last night was rough and sleepless thanks to the pain and fever. Today I felt a little better but decided to go back to the doctor as the swelling had not gone down and my ear was starting to look like a pickled cabbage. My doctor referred me to an Ear Nose and Throat specialist and thankfully I was able to get an appointment before the T8 warning shut down the city. His exclamations of “WOW” as he looked down my ear canal, alerted me to the seriousness of the infection as did his warning this was “no trifling matter.” I advised his that as a musician, the idea of my ear falling off was certainly no joke. My ear is now packed and I have a small dispensary of drugs to get me through the night before I go back tomorrow for a checkup.

Also, Hong Kong is shut down again under a Typhoon. This one is not passing right over us, though the wind direction means our apartment has been facing the full force of the storm for the past few hours. L’s ferry trip was quite wild as there were serious white caps over our side of the harbour. C already had a half day on Monday and there’s a chance she might have to stay home tomorrow if the storm does not pass soon.

Fern – I used to get ear ache regularly as a kid so can appreciate how sore and uncomfortable you must be feeling. Hope the drugs do their work and that the infection clears with no lasting effect.

Also are you guys getting more storms this year?

Fernando,

Sorry to hear about your woes! Sounds like no fun. I hope and pray for a full recovery from all these deluges.

Shalom,

Like Brodie, I used to get earache, though certainly not as spectacularly as you. Hope you recover quickly and completely.

Thanks. I’m almost recovered. My right ear looks normal now, having swollen up like an overripe tomato. Probably should have taken a photo of it! Still feeling very tired and all week I’ve felt not unlike the way I felt after a bad bout of food poisoning.

Fernando,

I’m glad your starting to feel better, and hope everything is cleared up quickly.

How did the typhoon go?
