Pushing Light – Going Beyond HDR Photography

A recent ebook from renowned photography teacher Piet Van den Eydne features an interview with me about my photographic process.

Pushing Light is a new eBook from photographer and educator Piet Van den Eydne. Piet will be familiar to regular readers of this blog after I interviewed him back in April 2011. His ebooks through Craft and Vision are always excellent value and Pushing Light is no exception. You should buy this ebook for one, simple reason…

…I’m featured in it!

OK. That’s clearly not enough of a reason to part with your hard earned cash. But, it does show Piet didn’t simply go and rehash a lot of existing material in writing Pushing Light. His interviews (with much better photographers than myself) and broad approach to the subject make this a great tutorial for all photographers.

Piet sets out to explore a variety of approaches to high contrast, high dynamic range photography, from the use of physical filters through to post processing techniques in Lightroom, Photoshop and dedicated HDR applications. It’s one of the broadest and most practical resources I’ve seen for photographing in challenging light conditions and the examples in the book can be applied to a wide variety of styles and situations.

I first chatted about HDR photography with Piet while travelling through Ladakh in 2010 and it’s clear his thinking on the subject has developed and broadened since then and he does a great job of bringing together a variety of approaches, both the camera craft and software processing in Pushing Light.

Feb 14, 2014You can buy the ebook from Craft and Vision here. I don’t get any kickback if you do. Apparently you can get a discount if you sign up for the Craft and Vision mailing list (but, don’t quote me on that). To be honest, 10 Canadian dollars is a steal for this. I paid full price, happily.

EDIT: Unfortunately the ebook is now out of print.
