As travellers, we humans can be funny sometimes. Folks go from London to Singapore, looking for something fresh and inspiring, while others travel from Singapore to Hong Kong, looking for the cool and fashionable. The planes from Hong Kong to Tokyo are full of people keen soak in the vibrancy of life there, while Tokyoites are constantly looking to New York for inspiration, even though New Yorkers seem to be perpetually enthralled by trends in London.

It’s human nature to chase the dream of a better life. To believe the grass really is greener on the other side. I’m guilty of it, too, as a constant traveller.

In fact, from next week, I’m doing it again: spending three weeks in New York. I’ll be attending a workshop, plus a few other events but mostly I’ll just simply be soaking up the life of the city.

I don’t think for a minute I’ll find the grass is greener in New York or that life is better. It will just be different. But, different is another kind of refreshment, one we need from time to time. We can all benefit from a few weeks in a different environment.
